The SaaS Video Process: Explaining a Complex Product Clearly
How to plan a SaaS video that turns a complex workflow into a clear story, accurate visuals, and a useful next step.
By Rixlab Agency
SaaS products can be difficult to explain because their value often appears across several steps. A video should help viewers understand the problem, see the product in action, and know what to do next. Clear product thinking is more valuable than showing every feature.
SHOW THE PROBLEM
Open with the task or frustration your buyer recognizes.
SHOW THE CHANGE
Demonstrate the product’s useful moment, then give a clear next step.
Choose one viewer and one use case
A buyer, new user, and investor may need different stories. Define the intended viewer and the workflow they care about most. Ask what they already know and where they usually get confused. This keeps the video focused.
Map the before and after
Show the current friction and the outcome the product enables. Select a small number of product actions that prove the difference. If the interface is still evolving, use accurate prototypes and plan for future updates rather than presenting speculative features as live.
Design for comprehension
Use a script with short sentences, readable interface views, and motion that guides attention. Storyboard transitions between the problem, product demonstration, and result. Captions and silent comprehension matter because many viewers will first watch without audio.
Test and release
Show a rough cut to people unfamiliar with the product. Ask what they think it does and what they would do next. Fix unclear terms, rushed screens, and weak calls to action. Export versions suited to the website, onboarding, and sales channels.
“An explainer works when the viewer understands the value before they understand every feature.”
Clarity earns the next click
Rixlab works across SaaS interfaces, product design, and motion. Connecting those disciplines helps a video explain the real experience rather than decorate it.
